Advisory Councils

122nd Street School has (2) Parent Advisory Councils/Committees:  School Site Council (SSC) and the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC).

School Site Council (SSC) is a group of teachers, parents, and classified employees that work with the principal to develop, review and evaluate school improvement programs and school budgets. The members of the site council are elected by their peers.  For example, parents elect the parent representatives and teachers elect teachers.  The role of the SSC is to:
1. Ensure that all federal parental involvement mandates are met, specifically:
  • the creation of the school-level Title I Parent Involvement Policy.
  • the creation of the Title I School Parent Compact.
  • the development of the Title I parental involvement budget.
  • the proposed expenditures of all categorical funds.

2. Develop, review and adopt the SPSA in consultation with relevant stakeholders and the English Learner Advisory Committee.

Each California Public School from Kindergarten through grade 12, with 21 or more English learners must form a functional English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). The ELAC is a committee for parents or other community members who want to advocate for English Learners.

The purpose of The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is to advise the principal and school staff on programs and services for English learners and the SSC on the development of the school's Single Plan for Student Achievement.

The committee makes recommendations to the School Site Council (SSC) concerning the following topics:

  • The school’s program for English learners.
  • The development of the school's Single Plan for Student Achievement.(SPSA)
  • The school’s needs assessment.
  • The school’s annual language census.
  • Efforts to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance.
